1. Your engine shakes when you turn your car on.
A shaking engine produces some noise, but you can also feel it shaking you in your seat. If your engine is shaking so severely that everyone in the car notices, it’s time to take it to the mechanic. Usually, this warning sign is intense the first few seconds after you turn on your car but dies down after that.
2. Your gas mileage isn’t as good.
If your gas usage went up over the summer, it might have just been because of seasonal travel. But if you still find yourself filling it up more often, something is wrong with your car. Start taking note of your average miles per tank once you notice the problem. Then take your car in for a tune-up or to get the fuel system cleaned.
3. Your engine is regularly stalling.
If you have an automatic car, any engine stall is a sign that something is not quite right. Stalling happens more frequently with a manual transmission. But if it’s happening more often than it should, a problem might be building up in the engine. Take it in for a quick tune-up.
